My name is Melissa Haskin and non-fiction words are my jam.
That's me up there to the left (or at the top, if you are on a mobile device). I have worked with words and writers in various capacities for over 15 years, from writing about where to eat in the Columbia River Gorge to editing scholarly articles.
When You Work With Me, You Get:
Experience You Can Trust
Clients turn to me for help with all sorts of projects, from sprucing up a cover letter to combing through a research article for readability. My credentials include a master's degree in magazine journalism from the University of Oregon (go Ducks!) and a bachelor's degree in economics with a minor in business from Oregon State University. In addition to my professional credentials, I am also a member of the Northwest Editors Guild where I have served as a mentor for the past few years.
Before switching to owning my own editing business, I worked in the editorial departments of major magazines such as Men's Health and Cooking Light.
Every excellent editor is always growing and learning. I keep up with my craft continuously through continuing education and involvement in professional associations.

One-on-One Help
I work on a freelance basis with individual clients. What does that mean? Instead of working with an employer 40 hours a week, I take on individual clients, so I can set aside whatever amount of time I need to help you get your work to where you would like it to be. It's the way I have run my business for 15 years, and I’ve found it to be the best model to help my clients be successful.
Long-Lasting Relationships
Many of my clients come back to me over and over throughout the years. See what they say here.

Left to right: paragliding in Maui, meeting quokkas in Australia, and hiking in Zion National Park.
When I'm not working, I'm out exploring national parks, soaking in the sun, and playing with my two cats: Willow (named after a run at Mt. Hood Meadows) and Timberline (named after the Timberline Lodge).
